A consultation with an experienced physician will determine if Kybella can address your concerns. Kybella does not treat sagging skin or loss of tone under the chin.
fat under their chin without undergoing an invasive procedure.
Kybella is a minimally-invasive body contouring procedure that uses an injectable agent to target and permanently destroy fat cells. Kybella targets excessive “submental” fat, commonly referred to as “double chin.” It is comprised of deoxycholic acid, a molecule that occurs naturally in the body and aids in the breakdown and absorption of fat. Once injected, Kybella destroys the fat cells present under the chin. The body then naturally removes the cells, and the treated areas are prevented from accumulating or storing fat in the future.
Once fat cells are eliminated under the chin, it is unusual to see a regain of weight in this area of the body. The reduction of fat is permanent. Results usually become visible during the first month, with maximal results usually visible by the third month.
Results are long lasting!
The majority of our patients are happy with one to two treatments, although some opt for three or more in the presence of a significant double chin. We like to schedule appointments eight weeks apart.
Patients may experience mild discomfort during the procedure. After the procedure, you may experience minor and temporary side effects such as swelling, bruising, pain and numbness at the injection sites. Depending on the treatment, the patient may experience a significant amount of swelling for the first 48 hours.
Because the procedure is minimally invasive, downtime is very limited.
Kybella is approved by the FDA for use under the chin and has a proven safety profile. Like any injectable, there are risks associated with improper injections. For example, if Kybella is injected into the mandibular nerve, complications can occur. Dr. Selene Castrejon stresses the importance of finding an experienced injector with an intimate understanding of facial anatomy.
During each treatment session, Dr. Selene Castrejon will mark the specific areas under your chin where the Kybella injections will be placed. A series of injections will then be administered. The area will then be lightly massaged. We apply ice packs to reduce swelling and discomfort. The entire process typically takes less than 30 minutes.
